DoB - Day 1

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 | Double Or Bust

I have been considering adding this new section to Texas-Holdem-Poker for a while. Today I finally got off my butt and did it. The new section is called “Double Or Bust”. Each day I will log in to Full Tilt Poker and will buy in to a low stakes game for the maximum buy-in. I will then play as many hands as needed to either double-up or bust out. Then, I’ll post my stats, perhaps a hand history or two and a summary of how I felt I played regardless of my result.

So, without further ado…

Level: NL .10/.25
Minutes: 52
Won: $28.80
Hands: 58
BB/Hr.: 66.46
BB/100: 99.31
VP$IP: 25.86
Avg. Pot: 4.08

Key hands: View hand #1
After hand #1, the winning player said “Sorry”, I asked why he was sorry and procceded to tell him I was happy to have him re-raise me with Q/J. Especially since he had only $3.45 to start the hand, how bad off could I end up. Plus, the flop was really nice to me. Then, the following happend. View hand #2. The fact that I have been playing fairly tight and every hand I have raised and had to show was a premium hand should have clued the guy in to the fact that I just might have a hand, here… The fact that I was able to get all my money back from the first guy who couldn’t let go of a pocket pair even after an ace hit the flop. I would have been happy to just take the original guy’s money, but getting the guy caught in the middle with A/J was just a bonus. There was a third hand where I flopped a flush from the BB with J/3 of spades and bet the whole way. I was able to win $9.00 from a guy who had a pair plus the ace of spades, missed his flush but pushed all-in for his final $5 on the river. I insta-called and had (in my head) called his exact hand.

Summary: Like I said, I played fairly tight. I didn’t have a lot of premium hands. Had K/K and won the blinds, had A/K twice which are shown above. Other than that, I stayed out of trouble by seeing cheap flops with small pocket pairs (no flopped sets) and suited connectors or one gappers. I also avoided trouble by folding from the SB with hands that are bound to get you in trouble like Q/3, J/5, K,6, etc…
